Transmission Modes

What is Transmission mode?

  • Transmission mode means transferring the data between the two devices.
  • It is also called as communication mode.

Types of Transmission mode:

Simplex Mode:


  • Data can be sent only in one direction i.e. Unidirectional communication.
  • We can't send a message back to the sender.

Examples of Simplex mode:
  • Loudspeaker
  • Television and radio broadcasting
  • Keyboard and monitor etc.,

Half Duplex:


  • Data can be sent in both the directions but not at a time.
  • Bidirectional communication but not simultaneously.

Examples of Half Duplex mode:
  • Walkie-Talkie
  • Rail tracks

Full Duplex:

  • Data can be sent in both the directions at a time i.e. simultaneously.
  • It is a bidirectional communication.


Examples of Full Duplex mode:
  • Telephone
  • Highways
